Obituary of John Decatur Rogers ~ 1976

John Decateur Rogers, 75, of Route 2, Ahoskie died Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie after a long illness.
A native of Duplin County, he lived most of his life in Wallace. He was
a former resident of Elizabeth City. He was retired from the Coast Guard
Repair Base in Elizabeth City.
He was a son of the late Charlie and Mrs. Betty Sholer Rogers and the
husband of Mrs. Doris Horton Rogers.
He was an Army Veteran of World War I and the American Legion Seth E.
Perry Post 84 in Elizabeth City. He was a member of St. John's Baptist
Church at St John's.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Leigh Sheep of
Elizabeth City; one brother, Heath Rogers of Goldsboro; two grandchildren
and one great grandchild.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in West Lawn
Cemetery by the Rev. Harold Scott, pastor of St. John's Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home, Elizabeth City,
Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m.
