Deep Bottom Man Claimed By Death 

Last Rites Held On Monday For John English, World War Veteran 

John English, 50, World War veteran, passed away at his home in the Deep 
Bottom section early Saturday afternoon following a long period of ill 
health. 
He had but recently returned from the Veterans Hospital in Atlanta where 
he underwent treatment for several months.
Funeral services for the deceased were held from the home Monday afternoon 
at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Ben Rose, Presbyterian minister of Chinquapin, 
conducted the last rites and interment followed in the Cavenaugh cemetery. 
Members of the local American Legion Post assisted in the service at the 
grave, the following serving as pallbearers: F. B. Haree, H. B. Carter, A. 
F. Cavenaugh, A. E. James, L. F. Jackson, and J. D. Stokes. Taps were 
sounded by Scout Elwyn Williams, member of the Wallace Troop.
Surviving the deceased is his mother, Mrs. Ada Cavenaugh, and four brothers, 
Clyde, C. D., Dock, and J. D. English, all of the Deep Bottom section.
