H. J. Batts Dies At Chinquapin 

Homer Julian Batts, 76, died at his home near Chinquapin Wednesday morning 
of last week at 8:20 o'clock after a brief illness. 
A member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Chinquapin for 40 years, he was a 
life long resident of this county, engaging in extensive farming. Funeral 
services were conducted from the home Thursday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. N. E. 
Gresham, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Garvey of Chinquapin. 
Burial followed in the family cemetery near the home. 
In addition to his wife, the former Alice Sheffield, he is survived by 
seven children from a former marriage: Mrs. Myrtle Futrelle and Mrs. Ben 
Batts, Chinquapin, Mrs. Alma Lanier, Burgaw, Mrs. Frankie Sandlin, McCain, 
Mrs. H. L. Sandlin and Mrs. Ruby Atkinson, Wallace, Mrs. Ruth Butler, 
Fayetteville; and one sister, Mrs. Eula Sanderson of Wilmington; also a 
number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
