Obituary of Amos Decatur Lanier ~ 1973

Burgaw--Amos Decator Lanire, 65, of Rt. 2, died Monday morning at the 
Pender Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 
4 p.m. from the Westview Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnny Huggins, 
the Rev. K. D. Brown and the Rev. Freeman Heath. 
Burial will be in the Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Lanier was a member of the Westview Methodist Church and a trustee of 
the church. He was a member of the Stag Park Hunting Club and a member of 
the North Carolina Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hattie Batts Lanire of the home, five 
daughters, Mrs. Merna Phillips of Durham, Mrs. Millie Hester of Roxboro, 
Mrs. Della Williams and Mrs. Shelia Herring both of Burgaw, Mrs. Selma 
Smith of Wilmington, two sons, Maxie J. and Gene B. Lanire both of Burgaw, 
two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Lanire and Mrs. Bertha Batts of Chinquapin, three 
brothers, Graham Lanire of Beulaville, Melvin Lanire of Wilmington, Moury 
Lanire of Warsaw, 26 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Active pallbearers will be nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Sherman, S. J. Harrison, G. L. 
Robinson, Dr. N. C. Wolfe, H. W. Pridgen, Billy Nichols, A. H. Page, 
William Sholar, J. W. Casteen and Jack Murphy.
Visitation will be at the Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home until 1 p.m. Tuesday.
