Mrs. Alberta Faison Shaw Dies in Rome, Funeral Held

Fayetteville, Oct 1. – Mrs. Alberta Faison Shaw, well know North Carolina woman, died in Rome, 
Italy, yesterday afternoon and funeral was held there today.  The news of her death was received 
by cablegram last night by her son, William M. Shaw, of this city.  Mrs. Shaw had lived in Rome 
for the past five years with her daughter, Miss Ruth Faison Shaw, proprietor of the famous Shaw 
school in that city.

Mrs. Shaw was the widow of Rev. William Mitchell Shaw, prominent minister and educator of the 
Wilmington presbytery, head of the James Sprunt institute, at Kenansville, for some years.  Her 
father was the late Colonel Thomas J. Faison, of Duplin county.  She leaves three children, the 
elder son being H. Summerall Shaw, history professor at Haverford college, in Pennsylvania.  
Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Virginia Faison, former woman principal of Peace institute, and 
widow of Dr. W. W. Faison of Goldsboro.

The interment was in the Protestant cemetery at Rome.
