Notes from emails to me from Sherri: Hi Diane, I noticed on your Duplin website you added 2 items that have no proven connection to our Dr. William Houston. These William Houston’s were same name only and were not one and the same person as my ancestor – All of the evidence we have actually is against there being any close connection to these other men and they have no connection to NC or its history. We did an ftdna test on William Ann Houston’s line – it appears he is not a blood line male descended from Dr. Houston. Tyson, Lillian’s husband descends from William Ann’s line. I have a few ideas – There was a family by the last name of Ann who bid on Dr. William Houston’s estate. I am wondering if this wasn’t William Ann who was adopted by the Houston family and he simply added the surname Houston. Another adoption scenario – possibly a Houston daughter married an Ann, both died and William Ann was adopted by Houstons. The other possibility is this is a completely different line of Houstons. William Ann Houston’s ftdna does not have any matches in the Houston surname – in fact out of all those participating this is in a new haplogroup – which to me favors the adoption theory with Ann as his possible original surname. I am attaching a pdf file that is a copy of the petition from Dr. William Houston from NC Archives in Raleigh – I thought you might like to add this to the collection of Houston docs. This petition deals with the potential confiscation of Houston lands after the Revolutionary War. It is very interesting and states that Dr. William Houston is the nephew, of Henry McCulloch. This would have been Henry McCulloch the land speculator not Henry McCulloch the Secretary. I really would appreciate it if you remove those other references that refer there is a connection to those 2 other William Houstons or at least correct it so people do not think there is a connection. Thanks much, Sherri Lynn Schrat Diane's note: I am not removing the other info on William Houston due to the fact that the material contains information that will help other researchers.William Houston General Assembly Session Records
