This information was contributed by Charles Purser
This is an excllent project done by Charles, listing 71 soldiers all from
Duplin County who died as Prisoners of War. Here is an excerpt from his email to me:
These 71 men are Duplin Co. soldiers that died as Prisoners of War. One was released
from prison, but died soon after in Richmond from prison disease. Two men that died in
Washington, DC and buried in Arlington Cem. were re-interred in 1883 in Oakwood Cemetery
in Raleigh. One fellow was in prison, but the record just stopped on him. I just found
out by research that the longest held Prisoner of War in the Civil War was from Duplin County.
