William & Edward Houston To Coms: of Sarecta Deed 15 July 1786

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 268, 269, & 270 William & Edward Houston To Coms: of Sarecta Deed etc. This indenture made the fifteenth day of July in the eleventh year of American Independence, and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty six, between William Houston Esqr. & Edward Houston both of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part. Witnesseth, that the said William Houston and Edward Houston for the valluable consideration of the sum of one hundred and sixty pounds to them in hand paid by Charles Ward, John Hill, David Murdock, James Outlaw, Samuel Houston, George Miller, John Hatcher comisioners for the Town of Sarecta aforesaid befor the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge to be therewith fully satisfied contented & paid, hath by these presents granted bargained sold assigned and set over to the said Charles Ward, John Hill, David Murdock, James Outlaw, Samuel Houston, Geo. Miller, John Hatcher comissioners or their suckseeders in office forever, one certain tract or parcel of land situated lying an being in Duplin County aforesaid on East side of the North East River, and being part of a tract of land of eight hundred forty acres which was granted to Henry McCulloch Esqr. bearing date the third of March 1742, and thence was granted to William Houston Esqr. by an act of the General Assembly in May 1780, reference being may more fully appear and being the same laid out for the Town at Sarecta. Begining at a stake under the hill now the apple orchard, runing down the River South forty west, one hundred and fifty poles to a stake in the edge of the River swamp, thence South fifty East one hundred and seven poles to a gum in a small branch, thence North forty East one hundred and fifty poles to a stake, thence to the begining, in the whole one hundred acres be the same more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land & premises with all the appertenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatsoever to these the said comissioners and their successions in office forever, free from all former gifts grants mortgages or intails dowers of any incumbrance whatsoever by them the said William Houston or Edward Houston or any person whatsoever by or from or under them, and the said William Esqr. & Edward Houston the aforesaid land and premises shall and warrent & defend to the aforesaid comissioners and their successions office forever, against, them the said William & Edward Houston their heirs and assigns, to them the aforesaid comissioners the aforesaid land and premises shall and may have hold occupie enjoy and possess as comssioners free and clear from all incumbrance whatsoever, and the said William Houston & Edward Houston each of them have their own Lotts excepted with what fences and frute trees they shall think proper to move off. In witness whereof the said William Houston Esqr. and Edward Houston have hereunto set their hands & seals the date above written. William Houston Senr.
