Wiley Gurganus To Absalom Mercer
Deed of 200 acres of lands
State of North Carolina Duplin County. Know all men by these presents tha I Wiley
Gurganus of the County of Duplin & State aforesaid, planter, for and in consideration of
one mane bridle and saddle and 16 pound bargain sell make over and deliver unto Absalom
Mercer, planter, him his heirs and assigns of the County of Duplin and State aforesaid a
certain tract of land containing two hundred acres more or less bying and being in the
County of Duplin east side of the North East, west side of Limestone Creek and both sides
of Cabbin Swamp patent by William Mercer, patent bearing date 1779. Beginning at a pine
west side of the swamp 20 poles west of the lower corner of his other survey; thence South
crossing Poley Bridge Branch 172 poles to a pine; thence crossing Cabbin at the mouth of
Poley East 100 poles to a black sapling; thence North 112 poles to a pine saplin in a swamp;
thence West joining his own line to the beginning, and I do warrant and defend the same from
me my heirs executors and assigns or any person or persons whatsoever unto the aforesaid
Absalom Mercer to him his heirs exec. and assigns. Whencunto I have set my hand affixed my
seal this 10th day of February 1783.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of John Wheeden and ordered to be registered.
