(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book E Page 423, 424, & 425 Thomas Hooks To Adam Reeves Deed 125 acres This Indenture made the Twenty first day of April in the Eleventh year of American Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven Hundred and Eighty seven Between Thomas Hooks of the County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina of the one part and Adam Reeves of the County of Wain and State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas for and in Consideration of the sum of sixty pounds Current money of North Carolina to him in hand well and Truly paid by the said Adam Reeves, the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself therewith to be fully satisfied Contented and paid and of every part and parcel thereof doth acquit and Discharge the said Adam Reeves his heirs Executors and administrators by these presents he the said Thomas Hooks hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, conveyed, confirmed, assigned, and set over, and by these presents for himself his heirs Executors and administrators doth fully freely and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoffe, convey, confirm assign and set over unto the said Adam Reeves his heirs and assigns forever all that Tract of Land and Plantation situate lying and being in the County of Duplin aforesaid on the North side of the No. East swamp, Joining George Kornegays Lands being the Land whereon Andrew Bass formerly lived; and is Bounded as follows towit Beginning at a pine George Kornegays and Andre Basses Corner Tree and runs thence along Kornegays line across a mirey Branch No. 60 Et. 100 pole to a Red oak said Andrew Basses other corner by an old field, at Kornegays other line thence along Kornegays line No. 30 Wt. 200 pole to a stake on the head line, dividing said Andrew Basses Land from George Kornegays Land, thence along the head line and Crossing the branch So. 60 Wt. 110 poles to a small white oak his corner thence along Edmond Dunkins line to the beginning containing in the whole one hundred and twenty five acres be the same more or less. Together with all Houses, Buildings, Orchards, Improvements, whatsoever, woods, ways, waters, water Courses, Profits, Benefits, and advantages, whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining. To have and to hold to him the said Adam Reeves all and singular the within bargained Granted Land and premises with the appurtainances free and Clear freely and Clearly acquitted and Discharged off and from all manner or other gifts, grants, bargains, Sales, Leases, Mortgages, Wills, Judgements, Jointers, Dowers, Right and Title of Dower by me hereafter made, or by any other person or persons for me, made done or procured and the said Thomas Hooks doth hereby for himself his heirs, Executors administrators farther Covenant and agree to and with the said Adam Reeves his heirs and assigns that he the said Thomas Hooks, the said Adam Reeves in the Peaceable and quit possession of the said one hundred and twenty five acres of Land and premises hereby bargained and Sold will warrant Secure and forever Defend from and against him the said Thomas Hooks his heirs Executors and administrators and from and against any person or persons Claiming by from or under him or them any Right, Title, Interest, or Property whatsoever of in and to the same or any part or parcel thereof (but not from any others). In witness whereof the said Thomas Hooks hath hereunto set his hand and fixed his seal the day and date first above written.
