(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 50 & 51 Samuel Ward To Robert Brock Deed of 320 acres lands This indenture made the fifteenth day of November in the eighth year of American Independance and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three, between Samuel Ward in the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina of the one part, and Robert Brock of the same place on the other part. Witnseesth that the said Samuel Ward for & in consideration of the sum of ten pounds specie to him in hand paid or secured to be paid Samuel Ward doth hereby acknowledge, and himself therewith to be full satisfied contented and paid, and of every part and parcel thereof doth exonerate acquit and discharge the said Robert Brock his heirs executors and administrators he the said Samuel Ward hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, conveyed, confirmed, assigned and set over unto the said Robert Brock his heirs and assigns forever all that peice of parcel of land & plantation whereon the said Robert Brock now lives on the head of the Poley Branch between the No. Et. and Goshen Swamp. Begining at a stake in the centre of three pines on the north side of poley branch near said Brock's house & runs thence So. 22 poles to a pine on Arthur Hering's line, thence Wt. 164 pole to a pine on Sullivan's line, thence with his line No. 40 Wt. 160 pole to a pine his other corner, thence along a dividing line No. 45 Et. 150 pole to a stake on the pattent line, and thence along the said pattent line up the poley branch on the north side to the begining, and containing in the whole three hundred and twenty acres of land it being the upper half of a tract of six hundred and forty acres, which was granted to the said Samuel Ward by pattent bearing date the first day of April 1780 in the fourth year of the American Independences, reference being therunto had may more fully and at large appearance. To have & to hold to him the said Robert Brock his heirs & assigns forever, all and singular the above granted and bargained three hundred and twenty acres of land and premises with all & singular the previleges benefits and appertenances thereon or them unto in any wase belonging or appertaining in a full and ample manner as he the said Samuel Ward by his patent for the same could or might enjoy, and that free and clear and freely & clearly acquitted and discharged off and from all manner of incimbrance wharsoever, except the yearly rents or taxes hereafter yearly becoming due and payable tot he State by law and the said Samuel Ward doth hereby covenant & agree to & with the said Robert Brock his heirs executors & administrators or assigns, that he the said Samuel Ward his heirs executors & administrators shall and will from time to time and at all times hereafter by force and virtue of these presents warrant secure & defend the said Robert Brock his heirs and assigns in the possession of the said three hundred and twenty acres of land and premises & every part & parcel thereof from & against him the said Samuel Ward his heirs & assigns & from and against all & every person or persons wharwoever claiming to claim any rights title or interest of in and to the same or any part or parcel thereof by from or under him the said Samuel Ward his heirs or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever under him or them or any of them. In witness whereof he the said Samuel Ward hath hereunto set his hand & seal the day and date first above written. Samuel Ward Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of us W. Dickson John Dickson State of No. Carolina, Duplin County, July Court 1784. There was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of William Dickson & ordered to be registered. Test W.
