Richard Mears To Patrick Newton
Bill of Sale for negro man Adam
State of No. Carolina Duplin County. Know all men by these presents that I
Patrick Newton of the aforesaid County & State for and in consideration of the sum
of one hundred and twenty pounds current money of the State aforesaid to me in hand
paid, have bargained sold & delivered to Richard Mears of the same place one negro
man named Adam about five fee six inches high well made, born in the West Indies &
about thirty two year old which negro man I do by these presents warrant & forever
defend to the said Richard Mears & his heirs forever, from any person or persons laying
any lawfull clame or right to him the said negro as above mentioned as witness whereof
I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 10th day of February 1787.
