Michael Merrit To Robert Merrit
Deed of 150 acres of lands
This indenture made this tenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and eighty four, by and between Mikel of the County of Duplin in the Sate
of North Carolina of the one part & Robert Merrit of Duplin County in the State aforesaid
of the other part witnesseth that the said Mikel Merrit for & in consideration of the sum
of forty eight pounds specie to him in hand paid by the said Robert Merrit the receipt
wereof the said Michel Merrit doth hereby acknowledge and hath given, granted, bargained,
sold, alinated, released enforsed & confirmed unto the said Robert Merrit his heirs and
asigns forever one certain tract of parcel of land lying and being in Duplin County in the
state aforesaid to said land granted to said Merrit by paten on the South side of Stewarts
Creek, one half of the said land was given to Mikel by deed by the said Robert Merrit:
Begining in the mouth of the branch at two large pins in the mouth of Cook's marsh & thence
up the branch to the head, and from thence to the back line by a line of marked trees and
corners on the back line in a pine; thence East one hundred and ten poles to a Black Jack;
thence North ten West on hundred and twenty pole to a stake by a white oak; thence along
Bartren Bryan's line west fifty poles to a red oak his corner; thence as his other line
North ten East eighty six poles to a red oak his corner in the swamp thence along the swamp
joining Joshua Leea's line to the begining, containing one and fifty acres be the same more
or less thogether with all woods, underwoods, low grounds, marshes, swamps, meddows, waters
or water courses, therein contained, with all houses, out houses, orchards fences and all
other profits, rents headetanments priviliges or appurtenances to the same belonging in any
ways apportaining to the same to have and to hold the said land and premises with their and
every of their appurtenances herein mentioned to the true intent & meaning thereof unto the
said Robert Merrit to his heirs or assigns forever and the said Mikel Merrit for himself his
heirs, executors, administrators or assigns, doth covenant & agree to and with the said Robert
Merrit his heirs or assigns that he the said Merrit for himself his heirs & assigns aquit all
right, title, intrust to the above said land & premises & shall and will forever warrant and
and defend the title of the above said land deed premises by these presents. In witness
whereof I the said Mikel Merrit hath set my hand and fixed my seal this day and year first
above written.
