Joshua Chambliss Deed 310 Acres
To
Zacheriah Turnage
This indenture made this fifteenth day of July in the year of the lord one thousand
seven hundred and ninety six, between Joshua Chambless of the county of Duplin
and State of North Carolina of the one part and Zachariah Turnage of the County
and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Josua Chambless
for and in consideration of two hundred and 85 pounds the receipt whereof he doth
hereby acknowledge and every part therof hath given, granted, bargained and sold,
(illegible), alwise conveyed and confirmed unto the said Zachariah Turnage his heirs
and assigns forever two certain tracts of land situated, lying and being in the County
of Duplin in the north side of Goshen Swamp and on the east side of Bear Marsh
both lotted and bounded as follows, the first beginning at a stake in Johnathan Taylors
line standing in Bear Marsh and runs along his line a south course to a small branch
then up the said branch to a corner a pine thense No. 32 Et. 100 Pole to a pine then
No.5 Wt. to a small branch in William Goodman’s line that runs between the said
Goodman’s and Samuel Bowdon, then down the said branch to Bear Marsh and down
the run of the marsh to the beginning consisting by computation one hundred and fifty
one acres be the same more or less. Only one acre exception whereon the meeting
house stands which I reserve for the use thereof forever,
The other tract beginning at a stake at or near the last mentioned corner of the old
patent and runs along the patent line No 5 Wt 320 Poles to a Black Oak then No. 48
Et. 42 pole to a pine thense along Goodman’s line No.33 Et. About 96 Pole to the run
of a small branch from the said run a course So. 83 Et. 208 poles to the back a Cypress
tree then along the said line to the beginning containing one hundred and sixty acres
more or less to have and to hold the above mentioned land with all and singular the
appertainances and privileges to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining to his
the said Zacheriah Turnages, his heirs and assigns forever to his otherwise proper use
benefit and whereby the said Joshua Chambless his heirs executors, administrators,
assigns do consent to and with the said Zachariah Turnage, his hiers assigns forever,
that before the sealing and witnessing of these presents the said Joshua Chambless is
the true sale and lawful owner of the above bargained premises and el lawfully, signed,
and possessed in fee simple as his own right of inheritance and have in myself full power
to sell and convey the same in manner as above said. And the said Zacheriah Turnage
his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter
lawfully peaceably and of as will, have hold, occupy, possess and enjoy the (illegible)
and bargained premises with the appertainances the same belonging to the said Joshua
Chambless (illegible) by these instruments acquit and discharge the said tracts of land,
(illegible) all other gifts, grants, bargains, sales, wills, mortgages, (illegible), and every
other encumbrances and do for myself, my heirs executors and administrators, assigns,
warrant and forever defend the said bargained premises unto the said Zechariah Turnage
his heirs and assigns forever in witness whereof the said Joshua Chambless hath hereunto
set his hand and seal the day and state above written
