John Ward To James Wright
Deed for 330 acres lands
This indenture made the thirteenth day of October in the eleventh year of the
American Independence & in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & eighty six.
Between John Ward of the County of Duplin in the State of No. Carolina of the one part
& James Wright of the same place on the other part. Witnesseth, that for and in
consideration of the sum of two hundred pounds current money of No. Carolina to him
the said John Ward in hand paid by the said James Wright before the sealing and delivery
of these presents, the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge & himself therewith
to be fully satisfied contented and paid & of every part and parcel thereof doth acquit
and discharge the said James Wright his heirs executors and administrators by these
presents he the said John Ward hath given granted bargainied sold aliened conveyed
confirmed assigned & set over & by these presents for himself his heirs executors and
administrators doth fully freely and absolutely give grant bargin sell alien enfeoffe
convey confirm assign & set over unto the said James Wright all that tract or parcel
of land situate lying and being in the County of Duplin aforesaid on the north side of
Bear Swamp, opposite Robert Wilkinson's plantation. Begining at a pine on Cullen
Connerly's line by Bellot's improvements and runs with Connerly's line No. 55 Wt. 160
poles to a white oak his corner, thence along his other line So. 53 Wt. 38 pole to a
white oak his other corner, thence So. 68 Wt. 110 pole to a sweet gum & small water
oak in the head of the dividing branch, Luke Ward's corner, thence down the run of the
dividing branch as it meanders to a black gum at the mouth thereof, thence down the run
of Bear Swamp as it meanders to the dividing corner, between James Wright & Robert
Wilkinson & thence with said Wilkinson's line to the begining containing by survey one
hundred and sixty five acres, more or less & also one other tract or parcel of land lying
& being in the County of Duplin aforesaid on the north west side of Bear Swamp between
the two main roads. Begining at a pine near the head of Poley Bridge Branch Stephen
Herring's upper corner, & runs thence along Herring's line So. 60 Et. 180 poles to a pine
his corner, thence along William Dickson's line So. 30 Wt. 26 poles to a red oak his
corner, thence his line So. 76 poles to a small pine his corner, thence along Robert
Wilkinson's new line and past his corner Wt. 170 pole to a small pine thence No. 10 Et.
190 poles to the begining, containing by paten t one hundred and fifty acres, & all houses
improvements ways water, water courses profits commodities hereditaments & appurtenances
whatsoever to the said two tracts of land and premises hereby granted or any part thereof
belonging or in any wise appurtaining & the reversion & reversions remainder and remainders,
rents issues and profit thereof, & also all the estate right title interest property
claim & demand whatsoever of him the said John Ward of in and to the said premises, &
all deedsw evidences and writings touching or in any wise concerning the same. To have
and to hold the said lands hereby conveyed & all and other the premises hereby bargained
& sold and every part & parcel thereof, with their & every of their appurtenances unto
the said James Wright his heirs & assigns forever, to the only proper use benefit & behoofe
of him the said James Wright his heirs and assigns forever, & the said John Ward for himself
his heirs executors & administrators doth covenant promise & agree to and with the said
James Wright his heirs & assigns by these presents, that he the said John Ward now at the
time of sealing these presents is seized of a good sure perfect estate of inheritance in
fee simple of and in the premises hereby bargained & sold, & that hs has good power and
lawful authority to grant and convey the same to the said James Wright in manner & form
aforesaid, & that the said premises now and so forever hereafter shall remain & be free
and clear of and from all former gifts grants bargains sales dower right & title of dower
judgments executions titles troubles charge & incumbrances whatsoever made dome commited or
suffered by the said John Ward or any other person or persons whatsoever (the rents & taxes
hereafter becoming due and payabloe to the State only excepted & foreprised) & that the said
John Ward & his heirs all and singular the premises hereby bargained and sold, with the
appurtenances unto the said James Wright his heirs and assigns against him the said John
Ward and his heirs & al and every other person or person whatsoever, shall warrant & forever
defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said John Ward hath hereuto set his hand
and seal the day and year first above written.
