(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 369 & 370 John Tucker To John Evans Deed for 150 acres lands This indenture made the third day of September in the ninth year of American Independence & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty five. Between John Tucker of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the one part & John Evans of the State & County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Tucker for divers good causes but more especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds specie to him in hand well & truly paid or secured to be paid by John Evans aforesaid befor the ensealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the said John Evans aforesaid one certain part or parcel of land, sittuate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid. Begining in the fork of Clear run, thence up the branch to the road, thence along the road an east course to the corner at a pine, thence a north course to Jacob Mathew's corner tree at the head of the branch, thence down the branch to the begining, it being part of David Tucker's entry containing one hundred and fifty acres, the same more or less. To have & to hold the aforesaid land and all its premises with all its appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said John Evans his heirs & assigns forever, free from all former gifts grants mortgages intails wills executions entents or troubles whatever committed or done by him the said John Evans or any other person or person whatever, by from or under him the said John Evans, the aforesaid land and premises with all the appertenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining shall & may have hold use occupie enjoy & possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance, & the said John Tucker the aforesaid land & premises shall and will warrant & forever defend to him the said John Evans his heirs & assigns forever, from & against him the said John Tucker his heirs & assigns as also from and against the just & lawfull clame of all & every other person or persons whatever who may hereafter lay any lawfull claim to the same. In witness whereof the said John Tucker hath hereunto set his hand & seal the date above written. John Tucker Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of John Mathews William Knight State of No. Carolina Duplin County January Term 1787. Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of John Mathews & ordered to be registered. Test W. Dickson, C. C.
