John Jones To John Weedings
Deed for 200 acres lands
This indenture made the eleventh day of June in the seventh year of American
Independence & in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred and eighty
three. Between John Jones of the State of North Carolina & County of Duplin of the
one part & John Weedings of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the
said John Jones for divers good causes and considerations him thereunto moving, but
more especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of twenty pounds specie to
him in hand well and truly paid by John Weedings aforesaid, before the ensealing &
delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acnolwedge to be therewith
fully contented & paid, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned
and set over to the said John Weedings his heirs and assigns forever, one certain
tract or parcel of land situate lying & being in Duplin County aforesaid on the east
side of the No. Et. River & north side of Limestone swamp on both sides of Cabbin
branch. Begining at a gum in the edge of Gum Swamp on Thomas Quin's line, thence as
the same No. 85 Wt. 37 poles to a pine his corner, thence So. 25 Wt. 98 poles to a
black jack William Mercer's corner, thence as his line corner & past crossing Cabbin
branch 240 poles to a stake, thence So. 29 Et. 156 poles to a stake, thence as Abner
Quin's line No. 65 Et. 134 poles to a pine by his corner, thence as his other line So.
20 Et. 105 poles to a pine, thence No. 82 Et. 50 poles to a pine on Anthony Lewis' line
thence as his line No. 35 Et. 80 poles to a stake, thence up the run of Gum Swamp to
the begining, containing in the whole two hundred acres be the same more or less. To
have & to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtenances to the same
belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatsoever, to him the
said John Weedings his heirs and assigns forever free from all former gifts grants
mortgages intails dowers rights or titles of dowers or any other incumbrance whatsoever
given granted or done by him the said John Jones or any other person whatever, & the
said John Jones the aforesaid land and premises shall and will warrant & forever defend
to him the said John Weedgin his heirs & assigns forever, from 7 against him the said
John Jones his heirs & assigns as also from & against the just & lawfull claim of every
other person or persons whatever, who may hereafter lay any lawfull claim to the same,
and the said John Weedings the aforesaid and premises shall & may have hold use occupie
enjoy & possess as own free and lawfull inheritance free from all incumbrances whatsoever
excepted, in witness whereof the said John Jones hath hereunto set his hand and seal
the date above written.
