John Goff To Rice Matthews
Deed of 100 acres of lands
State of North Carolina, Duplin County. To all to whom these presents shall come,
I John Goff of the County and State aforesaid planter send Greetings. Know ye that I the
said John Goff do by these presents for and in consideration of the sum of twenty five poynds
specie to me in hand paid by Rice Matthews of the County and State aforesaid planter the
receipt where of I do hereby aknowledge and therewith am fully satisfied contented and paid
and I do by these presents hereby acquit & discharge the said Rice Matthews his heirs executors
administrators and assigns & I have and by these presents I do give, grant, bargain, see
assign & set over to the said Rice Mathis his heirs executors administrators and assigns one
certain tract or passage of land containing one hundred acres, be the same more or less sittuate
lying and being in the County and State aforesaid, on the North side of Beaver day. Bininb at
a hum at the fork of the Beaver dam and running thence up the Beaver dam to the upper line,
thence along said line to a stake, thence running No. 50 Et. 27 chains to a white oak by the
mill Brance, thence down said Branch to the first station. To have and to hold the said one
hundred acres of land more or less together with all and singular the house, edifices, buildings
& all other improvements of wharsoever nature or kind on the premises, as also all the priviliges
advantages and benefits to the said land belonging or in any ways appertaining unto the said
Rice Mathews his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Goff do by these presents for me
my heirs executors administratiors and assigns do covenant promise and agree to and with the
said Rice Mathews his heirs executors administrators and assigns in manner and form following
that is to say, that the said Rice Mathews his heirs executors administrators and asigns shall
and may from time to time and at all times hereafter quietly and peacably hold use occupy possess
and enjoy the pree bargained premises and every part and parcel there, free and clear from all
manner of incumbrances whatsoever, had made or done by me the said John Goff except the yearly
quit rents that shall become due and I the said John Goff do by these presents for me my heirs
executors administrators and assigns do further promise, grant, and agree to and with the said
Rice Mathis his heirs and assigns the pre bargained premises with every the appertenances there
unto belonging from the lawful claim and demand of any person whatever, I have and will warrant
secure and defend forever by these presents. In witneww whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
seal this twenty first day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred &
eighty three.

There was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of William Goff and orderd
