John Beck Junr. To Thomas Gray
Deed for 3 tracts of lands
State of North Carolina, This indenture made this first day of August in the ninth
year of the America Independence Anno. Domini one thousand seven hundred and eighty four
between John Beck Junr. of the County of Wayne of the one part and Thomas Gray of the County
of Duplin attorney at law of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Beck Junr. for
and in consideration of the sum of five hundred pounds to him in hand paid by the said Thomas
Gray at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt thereof & of every
part and parcel thereof is hereby fully acknowledged by the said John Beck hath given granted
bargained & sold& by these presents the said John Beck doth grant bargain & sell unto the said
Thomas Gray his heirs and assigns forever the following three tracts or parcels of land sittuate
lying & being in the County of Duplin on the North side of Goshen Swamp and bounded as followeth
to wit. one of the said tract containing two hundred and twenty acres begining at a black gum at
the run of Goshen Swamp by the mouth of Grantham's branch & runs up Grantham's with the run
and meanders joining Kinnan's & Hainse's lines two hundred and eighty pole to a small white oak
by the run in said branch on Warren's back line, thence along Warren's line So. 55 Wt. 26 pole to
a pine his corner by the branch thence So. 70 Wt. 140 to a pine his corner, thence No. 30 Wt, 28
pole to a pine his corner, thence Wt. 60 pole to a white oak his corner thence So. 25 Wt. 70 pole
to a sweet gum and water oak his corner in the edge of Goshen Swamp, thence down the run of
the swamp with the patent line to the begining, being part of a tract of land containing five hundred
and eighty acres patented by Robert Warren and conveyed by deed writing bearing date the 21st
of October Anna Doini 1777 from the said Robert to John Beck junr. one other tract of land
adjoining the last mentioned containing one hundred and fifty
acres and bounded as followeth. Begining at a pine by Grantham's branch, Robert Warren's corner
tree and runs thence along his line No. 55 Et. 160 pole to a black oak his corner, thence along
his other line No. 60 pole to a pine his corner, thence Wt. 160 pole to a pine on west side of
Grantham's branch, thence So. 40 pole, thence near or joining Frazer's line to the begining
which said last mentioned tract of land was grnted by letters patent bearing date the twenty
fourth day of May Anno Domini 1773 to Jonathan Taylor and by the said Jonathan Taylor conveyed
to John Beck given by deed in writing bearing date the third day November Anno Domini 1774 one
other tract or parcel of land containing fifty acres, bounded as followeth. Begining at a stake
by three marked pines Jonathan Taylor's corner and runs thence along his line No. 40 pole to a
pine his corner, thence along Micajah Hill's line Wt. 160 pole to a pine on George Frazer's line,
thence along his line So. 50 Wt. 16 pole to a pine on Joseph Burbwaillis's line So. 58 Et. 276
pole to a pine his and Jonathan Taylor's corner thence along Taylor's line No. 44 Wt. 164 pole
to the begining granted by letter patent bearing date the fifteenth of December Anno Domini 1778.
To have and to hold the said tree several tracts of land & premises & every part and parcel
thereof will all and every the appertenances thereunto belonging to the said Thomas Gray his
heirs and assigns forever free & clear of all and all manner of right title claim and demands
of all and manner of persons to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Thomas Gray his
heirs and assigns forever and the said John Beck junr. for himself and his heirs doth covenant
promise and agree to warrant and defend forever the above mentioned premises and every part
thereof to the said Thomas Gray his heirs & assigns against all and all manner of persons
whatsoever. In witness whereof he hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and
year first above written.

Then was the written deed from John Beck to Thomas Gray proved in open Court by the oath of
Samuel Slocumb and ordered to be registered.
