James Lockhart To Lincoln Sheffield Deed 22 DNovember 1783

(Transcribed by Joan S Dunn) Deed Book 1 A Page 308, & 309 James Lockhart To Lincoln Sheffield Deed for 130 acres lands This indenture made the twenty second day of November in the eighty year of American Independence & in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & eighty three. Between James Lockhart Esq. of the State of North Carolina & County of DUplin of the one part & Lincoln Sheffield of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said James Lockhart for divers good causes & considerations him thereunto moving, but more especially for the valuable consideration of the sum of five pounds specie to him in hand well & truly paid or secured to be paid by Robert Dickson guardian to the said Lincoln Sheffield before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these presents given granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the said Lincoln Sheffield his heirs and assigns forever, one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid, east side the North East River. Begining at a pine the 2nd corner of Jasper Coxe's survey of 400 acres, thence along the back line of said survey So. 15 Et. 186 poles to a pine, thence through the pocoson So. 75 Wt. 200 poles, thence No. 15 Wt. to said Lincoln Sheffield's own line, thence his own & the patent line to the first station containing in the whole one hundred and thirty acres, be the same more or less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land & premises with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining of every nature or kind whatever, & the said James Lockhart the afore said land & premises to him the said Lincoln Sheffield his heirs & assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend from and against him the said James Lockhart his heirs & assigns as also from and against the claim or claims of all persons whatever, who may hereafter lay any claim tot he same by from or under him the said James Lockhart, and the said Lincoln Sheffield the aforesaid land and premises shall and may have hold use occupy enjoy and possess as his own free and lawfull inheritance in as full and ample a manner as he the said James Lockhart by his deed from the exrs. of Moses Car might or could have enjoyed. In witness whereof the said James Lockhart hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written. Jas.
