George Smith To Robert Ivey
Deed for 150 acres lands
This indenture made this thirty first day of December in the year of our Lord Christ
one thousand seven hundred and eighty five. Between George Smith senior of the County of
Duplin & State of North Carolina planter, on the one part and Robert Ivey of Wayne County &
State aforesaid planter of the other part. Witnesseth I the said George Smith do for & in
consideration of the sum of sixty pounds specie to me in hand paid the receipt whereof I do
hereby acknowledge myself fully satisfied & of every part and parcel thereof doth hereby
acquit exonerate & discharge him the said Robert Ivey his heirs executors administrators &
assigns forever & have given granted bargained & sold & by these presents doth fully freely
and absolutely give grant bargain sell and confirm unto the said Robert Ivey his heirs
executors administrators or assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land containing
one hundred & fifty acres be the same more or less, the said land lying on Cowhole Branch,
and part of five hundred acres patent by the said Smith, patent bearing date the first day
of July on thousand seven hundred & seventy nine, including the improvement where James
Dobson now liveth, divided by a row of marked trees almos covering. Begining where Solomon
Carter's line of his hundred acres joins the blasted trees, and along the said marked trees
to the head of a small branch of Burncoat, then down the said branch the various courses to
the side line next to Burncoat, thence the course of the patent to a black gum in a small
meadow, joining or near Adamse's line, thence the other line of the said patent east or near
tell it strikes Cacland, thence along his land to the blased trees, the said Robert Ivey.
To have and to hold the said land and bargained premises, to the use of him, his heirs
executors administrators or assigns forever, without any interuption of him the said George
Smith his heirs executors administrators or any other assigns whatever, laying any lawfull c
laim thereunto, and I the said George Smith do warrant & defend the same and make it free
and clear of all incumbrance whatsoever, except the yearly tax that shall be laid by the
General Assembly, in as full and ample a manner as I am invested with by my patent, and
furthermore I do oblige my to give another deed or this should not deemed lawfull. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal the day & date above written.

Then was the within deed proved in open Court by the oath of Josiah Stafford & ordered
to be registered.
