This Indenture made this sixteenth day of July in the year of American Independence
the sixteenth and in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and ninety one Between
David Murdoch and Mary his wife, of the County of Duplin and state aforesaid of the one part,
and James Pearsall of the same County and state of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said
David Murdoch, for and in consideration of the sum of one thousand pounds current money of
said state to him in hand well and truly paid, before the ensealing and delivery of these
presents, by the said James Pearsall the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself
to be therewith fully satisfied contented and paid hath given granted bargained sold enfeoffed
conveyed confirmes, aliened, and set over, unto him the said James Pearsall, his heirs and
assigns forever, Five Tracts or parcells of Land, situated lying and being in the County of
Duplin and state aforesaid, two of which were formerly the property of Charles Gavin and by
him conveyed to said David Murdoch, by Deeds Viz. one bearing date the seventh day of December
Anno Domine 1778, the other dated the 20th day of _____ Anno Domini______ which by said Deeds
may more fully appear one Tract containing three hundred acres, on the west side of Goshen
swamp, Begining at Reece Evanses Corner, thence along his line So. 30 Wt. 300 poles, thence
East 180 poles to a white oak, near a branch partly in the Branch north 30 Et. 300 poles to
an ash, in the swamp, thence up the swamp to the first station one other Tract containing two
hundred acres, lying in Goshen swamp on the south side of Gosher swamp Begining at a gum a
little in the swamp, Reece Evanses former corner, now Joseph Grimeses corner, and Runs along
Joseph Grimeses new line, north 88 Et. 56 poles to the Run of Gosher swamp, thence down said
Swamp No. 85 East 150 poles to a large cypress at the Run of Goshen, Joseph Grimeses corner,
thence as Grimeses other line So. 272 Wt. 62 poles to a Red oak and Hickory, thence as Charles
Gavins open line or near thereto SO. 87 Et. 50 poles to a gum, thence No. 220 poles thence Wt.
234 poles thence to the Begining. Two other Tracts, situated, lying and being Between Goshen
and the Grove swamp, were formerly the property of William Hawthorn, and conveyed by him the
aforesaid David Murdoch, by Deeds bearing date the 8th day of October Anno Domini 1779, which
by said Deeds may more fully appear one of which Tracts contains one Hundred and twenty acres,
being part of two hundred and forty acres, granted to William Hawthorn aforesaid by Patent
Begining at a pine by a Pond, Hawthorns old corner Runing thence north 30 West 16 poles to a
stake thence Wt. 154 poles to a pine, thence So. 180 poles to a stake thence So. 63 Et. 90
poles to a pine, Hawthorns old corner, thence with that line, north 60 Et. 260 poles to a pine
the Begining one other Tract containing one hundred and forty acres situated lying and being
between the Grove and Goshen swamps, being part of Three hundred and ten acres which was granted
to the said William Hawthorn by Patent bearing date the 20th day of September Anno Domini 1766
Begining at a small gum and white oak in the head of the Dark Branch, on Hawthorns line, and
Runs with said line north 60 Et. 210 poles to a pine by a pond, thence So. 30 East 120 poles
to a blackjack, thence So. 60 Wt. 160 poles to a small gum McRees line in a branch thence with
said line No. 20 Wt. 40 poles to a Hickory W. Rees corner thence with his other line So. 54 Wt.
49 poles to a stake in the run of the branch to the begining one other Tract granted to the
aforesaid David Murdoch by Pattent bearing date the 9th day of November AD 1784 situated lying
and being on both sides of Goshen swamp Begining at a cypress and holly on the south edge of
the No. run of Goshen swamp on his own line, Patened by Charles Gavin thence crossing the
swamp with said line So. 180 poles to a gum his corner thence crossing the big Island So. 87
Et. 127 poles to a Hickory thence along Matchets line No. 24 Et. 76 poles to a cypress at the
South Run of Goshen Swamp, thence down Goshen with Matchets line so far as a straight line
would be 230 poles, thence crossing Goshen north 186 poles to a stake thence straight to the
begining. The whole five tracts containing one Thousand one Hundred and sixty acres, be the
same in each and every Tract more or Less. To have and to hold the said Bargained Land and
premises with the appurtainances thereunto belonging, to him the said James Pearsall, his heirs
and assigns forever, in as full ample manner as he the said David Murdoch by his Deeds from
Charles Gavin and Hawthorn, could or might have enjoyed without the least lett Hindrance or
molistation of him the said David Murdoch his Heirs or assigns and that free and clear freely
and clearly acquit of and from all manner of former gifts grants bargains sales, leases, wills,
mortgages, Intails, Jointures, Judgements, Dowers, Executions, Extents, or troubles of any kind
whatsoever, hath made done or committed, by him the said David Murdoch, his Heirs or assigns,
and the said David Murdoch and Mary his wife doth further covenant and engage to warrant the
said James Pearsall his heirs and assigns in the quiet and peaceable possession of the above
said Lands and premises, from and against the Lawfull claim or Demand of any person or persons
whatsoever, Claimin or to claim from by or under him the said David Murdoch or Mary his wife,
their heirs or assigns In witness whereof the said David Murdoch and Mary his wife hath hereunto
set their hands and affixed their seals, the day and year above written.
