Daniel Glisson Sheriff To James Morris
Deed 200 acres
This Indenture made the nineth day of April in the 14th year of the American Independence,
and in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand Seven hundred and ninety Between Daniel
Glisson Esquire high Sheriff of the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina of the
one part and James Morris of the County of Duplin in the State of North Carolina aforesaid
of the other part. Whereas the States writ of Fieri Farias Issuing from the County Court
of pleas and Quarter Sessions at Duplin in the following words-- State of No Carolina To
the Sheriff of Duplin County Greeting. You are hereby Commissioned that of the goods and
chattles Lands & Tenements of Mary Fisher Debruhls if to be found in you bailiwick your
Cause to be made the sum of Five pounds twelve shillings & one penny current money which
lately in the County Court of pleas and Quarter Sessions at Duplin was adjudged against
her for the costs and charges of a suit which latly in the County Court of pleas and Quarter
Sessions at Duplin was brought and prossicuted by the said Mary Fisher Debruhl in the name
of Edward Cornwallis Debruhl who in behalf of Mary Fisher Debruhl his daugher sues etc.
against Elizabeth Parker Executrix, in her own wrong of John Parker Decd. whereof the said
Mary Fisher Debruhl is liable as appears of record- And have you the said monies before the
justices of the said County Court at Duplin on the third monday of April next- Then and there
to render into this office The costs and charges aforesaid. Together with your own fees for
this service, herein fail not and have you then and there this writ witness William Dickson
Clerk of the said Court of Duplin the twenty first day of January A. Dom. 1790. By virtue
of which Writ the said Sheriff did Enter upon and take possession of a certain tract of Land
on the south side of the main North East Marsh below the mouth of Ratle Snake swamp. Begining
at a sweet gum in the side of the No East Swamp at John Connerls Corner runing with his line
So 60 Wt 80 pole to a pine thence So 80 Wt 76 pole to a red oak, in the side of the Great
branch, thence up the branch along Anthony Farrior line So 33 Et 122 pole to a water oak to
John Parkers Corner, thence along his line No 40 Et 46 pole to a small pine by his corner
thence along his other line So 80 Et 120 pole to a red oak, thence the same course containing
100 poles to a stake, thence from the stake with the Patent line to the run of the No East
thence up the various courses of the Creek to the head line and with it to the begining containg
by Estimation two hundred acres be the same more or less it being part of a Patent of 300
acres formerly Granted to Thomas Taylor and since by the said Thomas Taylor conveyed by Deed
in writing to Mary Debruhl and having the said Land so Entered upon did advertise and expose
the same for sale at Publick Vandue according to the Directions of the Act of Assembly in such
case made and provided on the Twenty second day of March in the year of Lord 1790 as weel for
the aforesaid costs and charges as for sundry arrerrages of Taxes due on the said 200 acres of
Land to the amount of one pound seventeen shillngs and ten pence and the said James Morris
appearing on the premises on the day aforesaid bid off the said Tract of Land at the sum of
Twenty six pounds five shilling and was the last and Highest bider-now this Indenture witnesseth
that the said Daniel Glisson Sheriff of Duplin County aforesaid, by virtue of and in pursuance
of the writ aforesaid and of his said office and for and in consideration of the said sum of
Twenty six pounds four shillings to the said Daniel Glisson in hand paid before the sealing and
delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof the said Daniel Glisson doth hereby acknowledge,
hath granted, Bargained, sold, aliened enfeoffed, assignes, set over, conveyed and confirmed by
virtue of his said office and in pursuance of the writ aforesaid, as fully as he can and is
thereby empowered and enabled, doth by these presents, grant, bargain and sell, alien, enfeoffe,
transfer, assign, set over, convey and confirm unto the said James Morris, all the aforedsaid
tract of land situate, lying and being as before mentioned with all the Woods, waters profits
and advantages, whatsoever to the said hundred acres of Land and of every part and parcel thereof,
and all the Estate, Right Title Interest claim or Demand of the said Mary Fisher Debruhl therein.
To have and to hold the said tract of Land mentioned or intended to be Granted, sold, aliened,
transfered, set over, assigns, conveyed, and confirmed unto the said James Morris, his Heirs and
assigns forever, to the only proper use benefit and behoofe of the said James Morris his heirs
and assigns forever, in as full and ample manner as he the said Daniel Glisson Sheriff of Duplin
County aforesaid by virtue of his office of Sheriff and in Execution of the writs aforesaid and
is hereby enabled to convey, alter, transfer charge the same and the said Daniel Glisson Doth
covenant promise and agree to and with the said James Morris his Heirs and assigns that the said
Daniel Glisson Sheriff of Duplin County aforesaid will warrent and defend the said Granted and
bargained premises unto the said James Morris his heirs and assigns against the said Daniel
Glisson and his heirs, and against every other person or persons claiming under him the said
Daniel Glisson his heirs or assigns so far as he is impowered and enabled by virtue of his said
office of sheriff, and in pursuance of the Act of Assembly in such cases made and provided--In
Witness whereof the said Daniel Glisson hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year
first above written
