Arthur Mathews To Reuben Ezzell
Deed of 125 acres of lands
This indenture made this sixteenth day of February in the eigth year of American
Independence, and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty four,
between Arthur Mathews of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin of the one part
and Reuben Ezzell of the same place of the other part, witnesseth that the said Arthur
Mathews for diverse good causes & considerations him thereunto moving, but more especially
for the valuable consideration of the sum of seven pounds one shillings specie to him in
hand well and truly paid or secured to be paid by Reuben Ezzell aforesaid before the ensealing
and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath by these
presents granted bargained sold assigned & set over to the said Reuben Ezzell aforesaid,
one certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in Duplin County aforesaid on
the east side of Stewarts Creek and on the north side of Millers Mill Swamp, being of a
survey of two hundred and fifty acres. Beginning at a pine by the swamp, the fourth and last
corner of said survey, thence along said line North 200 poles to a pine the 3rd corner of said
survey, thence along another line of said survey being the back line West 100 poles to a pine
in a pond, thence a new line South 200 poles to a stake by the swamp, thence up the swamp to
the begining, containing in the whole one hundred and twenty five acres, be the same more or
less. To have and to hold the aforesaid land and premises with all the appurtencances to the
same belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the said Reuben Ezzell his heirs and assigns
forever, free from all former gifrs, grants, mortgages, intails, wills, executions, extents or
troubles wharever committed or done by him the said Arthur Mathews or any other person or
persons whatever by from or under him & the said Reuben Ezzell the aforesaid land and premises
with all the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining shall and may have
hold use occupy enjoy and possess as his own free and lawful inheritance, and the said Arthur
Mathews his heirs and assigns as also from and against the just and lawful claim of all and
every other person or persons whatsoever, who may hereafter lay any lawful claim to the same.
