A Maxwell To Nicholas Hall
Bill of Sale for 1/9 a part of Negros
Know all men by these presents that I Archabald Maxwell of the County and State aforesaid
for and inconsideration of the sum of Two hundred and Twenty five dollars to me in hand
paid by Nicholas Hall of the same County and State at and before the sealing & delivery
of these presents the Receipt whereof is heeby acknowledged hath given Bargained sold and
set over and by these present doth give bargain sell Release and set over unto the said
Nicholas Hall His Heirs and assigns forever forever all my right title and interest to the
several Negroes (to wit) Esther Dilly Rilly and their increase which Negroes fell to
Benjamin Williams By inter marrying Bentet Cranford by the last will of John Cranford
deceased the aforesaid Negroes since the death of John Cranford have been legally attached
and sold by the Sheriff of said County by virtue of an Execution against the said Benjamin
Williams I the aforesaid Archabald Maxwell being present becaim the highest and last bidder
that is to say a ninth part of said Negroes which of Right belongs to me in common with the
other legates of said John Cranford Decsd and the said Archabald Maxwell will warrant and
forever defend the title of his moity in the Negroes aforesaid unto the said Nicholas Hall
his heirs and assigns against my self my heirs Executors and administrators and against the
lawfull claims of any person or persons in any way whatsoever given under my hand and seal
this 2nd day of August 1839
