Alexander Merritt & Jane Elizabeth Merritt to John Bryan bil sale
Know all men by these presents that we Jane Merritt Alexr Merritt & Elizabeth Merritt all
of the State of North Carolina and County of Duplin for an in consideration of the sum of
one Thousand Two hundred dollars to us in hand paid by John Bryan of the same County of
Sampson the receipt where of is here by acknowledged have given granted bargained sold
and delivered and by these presents do give grant bargain sell and deliver unto him the
said John Bryan his heirs and assigns forever the following Negros Slaves (viz) one Negro
woman Frank aged now near Twenty two years and her Two children Elen Catharine aged about
Three years and Isiah about Two years and Gennit aged about Eighteen years and her child
John William about five or six months old to have and to hold the aforesaid bargained
Negroes unto him the said John Bryan his heirs Exers Adms and assigns forever and we the
said Jane Merritt Alexander Merritt and Elizabeth Merritt do have by warrand and forever
defend the afore said bargained Negroes unto him the said John Bryan his heirs Excrs adms
and assigns from and against us the said Jane Merritt Alexander Merritt and Elizabeth Merritt
our heirs Exers Adms or assigns as also from and against the lawful claim or claims of all
and Every other person or persons whatsoever provided never the less that if they or Either
of them do pay or cause to be paid unto the said John Bryan the above sum of one Thousand
Two Hundred dollars with all interest thereon or damage he the said John Bryan may sustain
it being in sundry notes and debts then the above bil of sale void and of No force otherwise
to remain in full force and virtue in witness where of we the said Jane Merritt Alexander
Merritt and Elizabeth Merritt have hereunto set our hands and seals this 18th of July 1839

peresonly appeard before me James Dickson Clerk of the Court Pleas and Quarter sessions for
said County on this the 15th day of Febuary AD 1840 Alfred Hall one of the subscrib witnesses
to the with in mortgage bill of sale and after being duly sworn uppon the Holy Evangelist of
Almighty God deposeth and sayeth that he saw Jane Merritt Alexander Merritt and Elizabeth
Merritt execute and deliver the within mortgage bill of sale and that at the same time he the
said Alfred Hall assigned the same as a witness and also he said Pennina Cook assgin the same
as a witness let it be registered
