Adam Williams To Archalus Branch
Bill of sale for negro Sam Recorded July 1839
Know all men by these presents that I Adam Williams in pursuance of an order made by
the Court of please and Quarter Sessions for Duplin County at its April term 1839 I
advirtised the sale of the Negros of Joshua Goodson dead at three different places
in said County for the space of thirty days and on the 15th day of may 1839 at the
House of the said Joshua Goodson dece I proceeded to sell to the highest bidder Negro
Boy Sam when and at which time and place Archalous Branch became the last & highest
bidder at the sum of eight hundred and twenty one dollars Now I the said Adam Williams
for and in consideration of the said sum of Eight hundred and Twenty one do9llars to
me paid at and before the delivery of these presents the receipt and payment whereof
is hereby acknowledged I have bargained sold and delivered to the said Archalous Branch
his heirs and assigns forever the aforesaid Negro Boy Sam free and clear from all claims
from the Hires of Joshua Goodson decd and the said Adam Williams doth hereby warrant
the said Negro Boy Sam to the said Archalous Branch in as full and ample manner as I
am empowered to do as commissioned and no further In witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal the 15th day of May 1839

The Execution of the within Bill of sale is duly acknowledged in open court by Adam Williams
& is ordered to be Registered
