Resided in Duplin County and enlisted in New Hanover County at age 23, 
April 22, 1862 for the war.  Detailed to work on gunboat February 10,
1863.  Absent detailed until transferred to Company D of this battalion 
January 13, 1864.  Transferred from Company B of this battalion January 
13, 1864.  Present or accounted for through August 1864.  Captured at 
Fort Fisher January 15, 1865 and confined at Elmira, N. Y., where he
died April 16, 1865 or chronic diarrhea and was buried in Woodlawn National
Cemetery, Elmira.
