Hattie Jane (Mathews) Bowen
I am looking for my gr aunt Hattie Jane (Mathews) Bowen's children. She
was my grandfather Walter Mathis' (sp) b. 1896 sister. Hattie b. 1895 m.
Abraham Bowen b. 1894. They had 4 children and no record of birth/death
so far and sure of the order of birth. She died in 1946 at age 30. I was told
that he moved North. But I found his death as being in Wayne Co, NC. What
I would like to know what happened to the children. They would have to be
born before 1926. I have checked Ancestry.com and found nothing on them
Abraham, Jr. Called "Abe" per my aunt who is now deceased as of 2003.
Thomas
Edna
Martha Tinsey
Their ancestors were Essex Mathews b. 1829, m Bessie Iv(e)y b. 1830, Duplin
Co. Laura Mathews b. 1875 was the mother of Walter and Hattie.
Abraham Bowen was the son of James and Martha Jane Bowen.
UPDATE!
September 24,2009
Hi Diane,
I just wanted to inform you about my new found relatives who descend from Edna (Bowen)
Hampton, dau. of Hattie Jane (Mathews) and Abraham Bowen, Duplin County, NC. I had
been looking for her children for 15 years. There were no Birth Certificates for either child
and that was the brickwall for both of us. Don't know what happened. Their births should
have been recorded in the courthouse in Duplin Co, NC.
To backup a little, I posted my information about my Gr aunt Hattie's children that my
deceased Aunt had given me before she died on Ancestry.com earlier. About a month ago,
one of the descendants, Paris Henry contacted me. She told me to get in touch with as
soon as I received her note. I wrote her back immediately and gave her my phone and she
called me and we talked for hours, 3-way with her mother in NY.
My cousin moved to Charlotte, NC, born in Washington, DC. I live in Greenbelt, MD and
later her mother moved to Long Island, NY. We exchange stories and some we both had
heard the same story and we knew we had the right family, also.
I had been looking for my grandfather, Walter Mathis' (sp) sister's descendants far too long.
There were 4 children, one out of the 4 had children. If Edna had not had children, I would
have never found any of them.
Thank for allowing me to put her name on your Brickwall on the Duplin County WEBSITE.
Thanks again for posting my information and letting me share with you my new relatives.
